HOW DO WE SUPPORT YOUR CHILD?
The number of periods a student receives depends on their level of English. Staff support in the following areas:
- In class support
- 1:1 English lessons
- English sessions in small groups
- Homework Club
- Lunch Club
HOW IS MY CHILD ASSESSED?
Assessments for your child comply with normal school prcedures. Additionally, we review the language acquisition using the EAL progress booklet which assesses their ability in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
If your child receives in class support by a member of the EAL team, then their progress in that particular lesson is assessed using a record of support sheet. This sheet measures the understanding of the lesson being taught, the tasks completed and the level of participation of your child.
HOW LONG WILL THE SUPPORT LAST?
This depends on the progress your child makes; we carry out regular assessments during the year to determine the required level of support. Their levels in other subject areas are also tracked and in-class support are reviewed.
Students have the opportunity to gain an additional GCSE in their first language. Previously we entered students for:
- GCSE Polish
- GCSE Portuguese
- GCSE Urdu
Students also complete Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 1 & 2 and gain a certificate after passing the online exam.
