Welcome to the Computing Department

The purpose of the Computing Department is to provide pupils with vital skills and knowledge which will enable them to be fully equipped for the world around them. Computing and IT processes are integral to everyday life and our aim is to provide the highest quality of education for our pupils that encourages them to be highly motivated, independent forward thinkers.

Pupils follow a broad curriculum that encompasses Computing, IT, Business skills and knowledge, which allows pupils to experience all aspects of the digital world. Pupils are taught how to problem solve, think logically, be creative, use abstraction to simplify complex tasks, be artistic, be confident, work as a team and be safe.

The use of digital technology is so important to every day and business life. It is imperative that all pupils are digitally literate. In a world that is ever changing, we aim to provide up-to-date education that constantly evolves with the world around them.

We have a highly skilled and experienced team of teachers who inspire and nurture pupils to be the best they can be, giving them moral and ethical guidance they can apply to their lives. We believe everyone has the potential to become the next Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates or Steve Jobs.

During their time at Archbishop Ilsley we offer pupils a range of opportunities and experiences that help them to see how technology is used outside of the classroom. We have visits to the first ever electronic computer “Colossus” at Bletchley Park and Alton Towers to see how rides are designed. Pupils take part in masterclass coding days by professionals, see how digital marketing campaigns are developed and have the opportunity to program in many different environments and languages.

“We believe computing is the most exciting and relevant subject that pupils learn. We have a skilled team of teachers, from varied fields of expertise, who provide stimulating and engaging lessons which are fully up-to-date with the ever-changing nature of the subject”.
